Protection for PSA Members
18 May 2020
Helping protect our members on the front lines against COVID-19
As many of us return to work, keeping our members safe is our highest priority - so over the coming weeks the PSA is distributing hand sanitizers to selected workplaces across the country, to offer members that extra level of protection.
Each hand sanitizer is hospital grade, containing 70% v/v ethanol and killing 99.999% germs in independent laboratory testing.
Fight for PPE
Throughout lockdown, many of our members working in essential services had to fight for access to basic PPE.
Whether it was through Facebook, surveys, phoning Members of Parliament, attending Zoom meetings, or adding your face and message to the international campaign for PPE, it was the actions of union members that won the provision and distribution of PPE to ensure the safety of Community Support Workers, their clients, their whanau, and their communities.

The PSA covers workers in the public service, the state sector, community public services, local government and district health boards.
As a PSA member, you'll have:
- A stronger bargaining position when negotiating pay and conditions
- Protection from unfair treatment, including legal support for workplace matters
- A bigger say in decisions at work, enforced by relationship agreements between the PSA and many employers
- And more
When workers act together, they have strength and safety in numbers and a better chance at getting what they need at work.
