2015 Stand Up conference
Stand Up is the youth network of the Council of Trade Unions, bringing all the young unionists together under one organisation.
The conference was focused on how we can build the youth movement across the country.
Stand Up has a regular newsletter and local groups in several parts of the country. To find out more or to sign up to the newsletter, email email@example.com
While PSA Youth is a well-established and well resourced network, many other unions are still building youth networks or trying to find ways to include younger workers in their activity.
We discussed where the movement was at, and agreed that we wanted to see more leadership from Stand Up, as well as more communication of activities across the different unions. There are a lot of opportunities to collaborate going forward - particularly around building community in the movement (particularly in the regions) and supporting each other in activism and dealing with workplace and youth issues. Hopefully we can consider some of these issues in the Hui and see what PSAY can do to help build the movement.
The conference was attended by 70 young unionists from 12 different unions, including 13 PSAY delegates. The feedback from conference attendees was that it was really valuable and a lot of fun.
PSA's Asher Goldman was re-elected as one of the Stand Up co-convenors, and Christina Couling from NZ Nurses Organisation in Christchurch was elected as co-convenor! Congratulations to them both from PSAY.
