CTU Stand Up Conference 20-21 May

PSA Youth will be sponsoring ten members to attend the Council of Trade Unions (CTU) Stand Up Conference 20-21 May. We are calling for expression of interest from interested members.

The conference will be catered to union members who are already active in their union and have a good understanding of unions.  PSAY will be sponsoring people who are already active in the PSA eg. in a delegate role or in PSAY, and who are keen to get more involved.  We expect at a minimum that participants will meet with a PSAY Convenor after the conference to debrief and discuss next steps.

To express your interest in attending, please email psay@psa.org.nz with the following details by 10am on Wednesday 29 April:

  • Full name
  • Employer
  • Home address
  • Email address
  • Phone
  • Why you want to attend and what you plan to do post conference (keep brief)
  • PSA/PSA Youth involvement to date (eg. delegate, 2015 PSAY Leadership Training, 2014 Regional Conference, 2013 PSAY Conference)

You will need to talk to your employer about release for the two days if you are selected.

Note expressions of interest close at 10am on Wednesday 29 April, so you will need to get in quick. There is a tight deadline for EOIs as it’s not long til the conference.  We hope to get back to everyone within a couple of days of the EOI deadline, advising whether or not you have been selected, and will then arrange travel and accommodation (covered by the PSA).

Further information

Stand Up is the youth wing of the Council of Trade Unions.  It’s a network of young workers from the many different unions in New Zealand.

Every second year Stand Up organises a cross-union national conference of young unionists.  This year’s conference is on the theme Recruit, Engage, Activate, and will be taking place in Wellington on 20-21 May.  The conference will be focused internally on building power and influence of youth to shape the direction of their own union and the union movement.  Attendees will be given the opportunity to upskill, problem solve and share their ideas.  The conference will also provide a great opportunity to network with union members from a range of unions and sectors.

At this stage there is no further information about the conference programme.
