Equal pay update for mental health and addictions support workers

Meet with your local MP and support mental health and addictions support workers!

Worth 100 logos3Equal pay for mental health and addictions support workers will happen! But it needs a push…

During the election campaign the Labour Party made a commitment to extend the equal pay settlement to mental health support workers. The Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern herself promised this on the campaign trail.

Since the election we’ve had assurances from the Ministry of Health. But we still have no date for implementation.

The process is taking too long, and the Government needs to speed things up.

A settlement for mental health support workers needs to be Government priority #1.

There is a crisis in mental health. As you know, the sector is losing support workers; some have gone to better paid care and support jobs elsewhere while others have quit support work altogether.

This makes an equal pay deal a matter of urgency. The Government needs to hear this loud and clear.

Can you meet with your local Government MP?

We will support you to meet with your local MP to get the message across: you need equal pay and you need it now!

They need to take your message to the Minister of Health, David Clark.

You are front line mental health and addictions support workers and that must be recognised. It is no longer acceptable to leave you on pitiful pay, given the demanding, skilled and important work you do.

It’s time to push for a settlement now.
