Invite to PSA Youth Leaders Hui – 7-9 August

We are calling for expressions of interest to attend the PSA Youth Leaders Hui on 7-9 August.

Organising a Leaders Hui is a first for PSA Youth – we have organised many national and regional conferences over the years, but this year we are looking to get 40 active PSAY members together for some focused thinking about PSA Youth.

What: PSAY Leaders Hui
When: Friday 7 to Sunday 9 August 2015
Where: Hillside Hotel, Huntly, Waikato
Who: Invite open to active PSAY members

The theme of the hui is PSA Youth and the Future of Work. We will take some time to consider the future of work in New Zealand and in our sectors, and PSAY’s role in influencing this. Participants will also contribute to network planning (discussing network priorities and activities for the year ahead), think about new ways of doing things (including reviewing the PSA Youth rules and structure), and elect new network convenors. Members will be given the opportunity to lead their own workshops and will have quality time to network with other young union leaders.

All of this will take place over three days (including a weekend) in the beautiful surroundings of Huntly. Seriously! There is a fabulous eco retreat in Huntly that we’ve fully booked.

The hui is for committed PSAY activists – people who have demonstrated leadership in the network, whether through interest in an elected role or active participation in network activities. We will be electing our PSAY national convenor and PSAY regional convenors at the hui, so if you are interested in one these roles, do put in an expression of interest.

We will be funding approximately 40 young PSA leaders from across the country to attend this event, including travel, accommodation and food.

As the event is scheduled for a Friday to Sunday, most attendees will need to organise one day’s release from work. We recommend requesting paid leave and checking with your manager if possible before expressing your interest. If you are selected to attend, we can provide you with a letter to present to your manager.

For more information, check out the FAQs on our website. Got a question? Please check the FAQs first.

To express your interest in attending, click the link in the May newsletter from PSA Youth you should have received via email.

Note that expressions of interest close at 5pm on Thursday 21 May, so you will need to get in quick.

So Huntly, ay? It really is a stunning venue! We will send a prize pack of Fairtrade goodies to the first person who emails in or shares on Facebook an audio or video file of the 1995 classic What’s Wrong with Huntly? by Hugh and the New Zealanders. We couldn’t find a whole version but here’s a clip.
