Porirua gets loud for a living wage
More than 900 Porirua locals have told their Council they want to see council workers paid a living wage.
The residents, supported by Living Wage Porirua, made submissions as part of the annual plan process.
Living Wage Porirua, a group which includes a number of PSA members, formed last year in support of the nationwide living wage campaign which says that people must be able to earn enough to live a decent life.
Submissions were collected in recent months at a number of festivals and stalls in the city by hard-working volunteers.
In June, councillors announced they would not adopt the living wage, though they agreed to $200,000 extra for the lowest paid staff.
