Kia ora e te whānau o Te Pūkenga Here Tikanga Mahi
Once again, Aotearoa has needed to lockdown with Covid-19 being found in our community.
For those of us living in Tamaki Makaurau, strict restrictions remain in place as I write this. This time around lockdown seems a little harder!
But as with last time we were in lockdown, life goes on and we adapt to our new ways of working, living, and socialising. Thanks to all of you who have helped deliver public and community services during this time. I know it is not always easy.
As with last time, we have had to postpone many events that were planned. While some events could go ahead online not all could be easily moved to that format.
One event that could be easily moved online is our Annual General Meeting– the first time we have run our AGM fully online.
VACCINATION
In September, the PSA held webinars with Dr Siouxsie Wiles focussing on busting a few myths and answering questions that members had about Covid-19 vaccinations. I encourage you all to watch this at youtube.com/NZPSA.
Getting as many of us as possible vaccinated against Covid -19 is now more important than ever. Not only does being vaccinated help protect yourself, but it also helps protect those who can't be vaccinated for health reasons and children under 12 years of age.
Once vaccinated if you do contract Covid-19 you are less likely to need hospital treatment.
If you are yet to be vaccinated, I encourage you to go ahead and do so. If you are worried about getting vaccinated or have questions, please talk to your GP, or read the information on the Ministry of Health website.
The more people that get vaccinated, the better off we will all be. We are stronger in numbers and collectively we can play our part by choosing to be vaccinated.
STRATEGIC GOALS
In this issue of Te Mahinga Ora we present the PSA’s refreshed strategic goals for 2021-2027.
They reflect a renewed commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti and Ngā Kaupapa values, and the deepening concerns of our members and our union about climate change.
These goals have been approved by the PSA Executive Board, but we are keen for all members and delegates to help bring them to life in their workplaces and the wider community.
