The Science System Advisory Group (SSAG) was established in 2024 to provide advice to the government on strengthening the science, innovation and technology system. The SSAG is undertaking a two-stage process, providing preliminary advice and recommendations in June 2024 with further recommendations later in the year.
The PSA made a submission on Phase One of the SSAG's work programme, which was developed with the PSA's national science committee. The submission focused on:
- the importance of public good science
- the need to provide stable funding
- the importance of retaining expertise in the science sector.
