All the Māmās deserve to be valued.
But a few days ago, the coalition-Government cancelled 33 pay equity claims and changed equal pay law to make it much harder to raise new ones. Women in professions like support work, library assistants, and teaching had worked for years on those claims. They were given no warning and no chance to have their say.
Our communities have been clear: we will never accept women and people in female dominated professions being paid less than we're worth. This Mothers' Day we're keeping the pressure up.
Here you'll find:
- A poster. Download and print some in A3 or A4 and take them to Mothers' Day hotspots in your local community. We're thinking florists, church, brunch places, or anywhere else.
- A profile picture. Download it then open Facebook or Instagram. Go to your profile and tap where your profile picture is. Upload the pay equity image from your photo gallery or downloads folder.
- A cover photo. Same as the profile picture - add this to your account to spread the word.
We're encouraging people to sign the Protect Pay Equity petition. Over 55,000 people added their names in three days. We'll deliver it to the decision-makers in parliament in less than two weeks.
This one's for all the Mums, the mother-figures, the aunties, the ones who take us in when there's nowhere else to go, and the ones who lift us up. We're wishing a happy and equitable Mothers' Day to all.
