The Independent Electoral Review was established in 2022 to consider how to make New Zealand’s electoral system clearer, fairer, and more accessible for current and future generations.
The first stage of the review involved the release of a consultation document in September 2022 that set out a range of questions about New Zealand’s electoral system. The PSA provided some initial thoughts, informed by what our members had told us in 2012 when the electoral system was last reviewed.
(Stage two of the independent electoral review was the release of an interim report in 2023 – you can read about the PSA’s submission on that report here.)
